"A child enters your home and for the next twenty years makes so much noise you can hardly stand it. The child departs, leaving the house so silent you think you are going mad."

Mother’s Day

My 4yo gave me the best Mother’s Day card EVER yesterday. He made it at Pre-school. It is not that he has written his name all scrunched up in the corner, it is not that he put kisses on the envelope. It is the rhyme that is inside it that had me reaching for the Kleenex.

“There used to be so many

Of my fingerprints to see,

On furniture and walls and things,

From sticky, grubby me.

But if you stop and think a while,

You’ll see I’m growing fast,

Those little hand prints disappear,

You can’t bring back what’s past.

So here’s a small reminder

To keep, not wipe away,

Of a tiny hand and how it looked,

To make you smile someday.”

The sentiment is just wonderful and really did bring me to tears. Added to the hand prints in the shape of a heart on the front, it is just perfect! I just had to share! As a child Mother’s Day really didn’t mean too much to me. I imagine that it did to my mother though. I bet the grubby handmade cards meant as much to her 30 years ago as they do to me now.

Sending my mum a Mother’s Day card means so much more since I became a mother myself. Now I know just how much she wanted to fight my battles and protect me from the world.

Thanks Mum

and Happy Mother’s Day xx

Facebook decides baby name!

The story about a couple letting people on Facebook decide on their unborn child’s name is bizarre to say the least. Is this Web 2.0 gone mad?

Would you let people on Facebook decide on your baby’s name?

Mums on TV!

Eastenders Bianca Butcher was voted ‘Most Popular TV Mum’ in a Yahoo poll.

This made me think, largely in horror. OK, I am not an Eastenders fan, but there must be better role models for Mum’s on TV than Bianca and her swarm of kids. I thought hard. I thought again… The OXO Mum (played by Lynda Bellingham) – how about her? OK, you have to be this side of 30 to remember the adverts, but surely no one is either like her or wants to be? Quintessentially middle class, providing yummy food for her stereotypical family…
